The collection of Apple Watch faces now stands at well over 50, with cool extras being added recurrently, including the brand new – and sensible – Pride Radiance, which launched in May alongside a vibrant recent Pride Edition Braided Solo Loop. As Apple gives, so Apple takes, it seems.
When the subsequent software is released in the autumn, watchOS 11 will remove a certain watch face. As Zac Hall at 9to5MacThe Siri Watch watch face is being discontinued. Of course, Apple could still reverse this decision, but I believe that is highly unlikely, and here’s why.
This is nearly actually the primary time Apple has removed a watch face, unlike all of the others which were added. I counted 63 this list from Appleand it doesn’t include the brand new Pride Radiance. Not all can be found for all watches or all watchOS versions.
So why is the Siri face disappearing?
Apple’s description of the Siri watch face is: “This watch face shows timely and helpful information. It could be your next appointment, the traffic on the way home, or the time the sun sets. Tap to get more information. Turn the Digital Crown to scroll through your day. Press the Digital Crown to return to the watch face.”
Does that description remind you of the rest? Last 12 months, Apple introduced the Smart Stack for the Apple Watch. On the watch face (on any watch face except one), you may turn the Digital Crown to scroll down and see a listing of knowledge in the shape of widgets. It will show things like your next appointment, the weather, and more.
In other words, the Smart Stack does almost the exact same thing because the Siri face. And as you would possibly have guessed, the one watch face it doesn’t work with is the Siri face.
The same goes for the double-tap mechanism that was introduced with watchOS 10 for the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. This is a clever maneuver that lets you launch the Smart Stack with one hand.
Now Apple has promised us a better Smart Stack with watchOS 11. At least we ought to be thankful they didn’t call it Smarter Stack. The widgets are shown based on time, location, and other features. It can show you the Shazam widget if the watch detects that music is playing nearby.
The next operating system may even mechanically launch the Smart Stack when there’s live activity or music is playing.
So, goodbye, Siri Watch Face. Long live the smarter Smart Stack.
