Parisians wish to defecate within the Seine in protest against Olympic spending

With 35 days to go before the beginning of the Paris Olympics, last-minute preparations are being made to arrange the town, specifically to be sure that swimming competitions can happen within the Seine. But some Parisians produce other ideas and are planning what they call a “shit flash mob”: they are saying they may defecate within the river to protest against the general public money being spent on cleansing it.

The UK Independent Reports that the hashtag #JeChieDansLaSeineLe23Juin (which will be translated as “I shit in the Seine on June 23”) is gaining popularity on social media.

The plan to carry several outdoor swimming events within the Seine has long been controversial. It was one among the important thing principles behind Paris’ successful bid to host the Olympic Games – the 1904 Olympics saw rowing, water polo and swimming events held within the Seine. The city has largely used existing infrastructure to host the events, claiming these are essentially the most sustainable Games in recent history. The opening ceremony can be set to happen on the long-lasting body of water, the primary time it should be held outside a stadium.

However, water quality has been an issue within the City of Lights almost because the last Olympic Games. Swimming has been officially banned in most parts of the Seine since 1923 because high levels of bacteria were found there.

When it rains heavily, the sewage system overflows for a very long time and untreated water flows into the river. A newly opened pool the scale of 20 Olympic swimming pools is meant to unravel this water quality problem in time in order that the Seine will be reopened to competitive swimmers.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and President Emmanuel Macron are convincing the skeptical public with the novel concept that they too will go into the water on June 23 to prove how protected the bacteria levels within the waterway are.

The city has no alternative plan for its swimming events and the Independent reported that in a recent measurement in May, after heavy rainfall, the E. coli level directly at first line of the triathlon competition was thrice higher than it ought to be.

On Sunday, protesters plan to defecate within the Seine to protest against using public funds for the Olympics, while many Parisian neighborhoods are fighting poverty. The cost of cleansing the river is around $1.5 billion, although the town intends to maintain the river permanently open for swimmers even after the Games are over. This money, protesters say, might have been spent on other, more pressing needs of Parisians.

It’s not hard to see why the hashtag is gaining popularity, as there are numerous memes on X showing toilets on the banks of the Seine. website It specifies when the demonstrators should relieve themselves within the river, depending on where they wish to deliver their gift to the President of the Republic and when it may possibly be expected to reach downstream in time.

It stays to be seen whether President Macron and Mayor Hidalgo will take to the waters and whether the protest will actually happen.
