It’s Wordle Wednesday again. (I’m typing this within the voice of Phil from And each day the groundhog says hello, the grumpy prima donna weatherman, by the way in which). It’s a bit like being in And each day the groundhog greets you for those who write a Wordle post each day of the 12 months – not that I’m complaining. It just does weird things to your brain and your sense of time and the passage of time.
Like every Wordle Wednesday, it is time for an additional challenge! Here’s your puzzle:
An old man desires to visit one other man in prison. The prison guard stops him and says, “I’m sorry, sir. Only relatives are allowed to visit him. Are you related to the prisoner?” The old man says, “Brothers and sisters, I have none. This man’s father is my father’s son.”
Who is the old man?
I’ll post the reply tomorrow, but you may also DM me the answer…
Alright, Wordle time!

Wordle Analysis
Every day I check Wordle Bot to investigate my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot. exactly here.
Well, GRAPE was a lucky pick for the opening today, although I’m probably not sure why I selected it. We don’t even have grapes. I suppose I used to be just attempting to do something much like SLATE, but different enough to be interesting.
When there have been 16 words left and a green and yellow box appeared, I used to be torn between GAMUT and GONAD and eventually selected the previous. Here, too, it was a stroke of luck, because I only had one option left, which I seized quickly enough: GAUNT won!

Today’s Wordle etymology
The word “gaunt” has an interesting etymology that will be traced back through several languages. Here’s a breakdown:
- Middle English: The word “gaunt” appeared in Middle English as “gant” or “gaunt,” meaning “lean” or “emaciated.”
- Old French: It probably comes from the Old French word “gant,” meaning “thin” or “emaciated.”
- Germanic origin: The Old French word could have roots in a Germanic language and should be related to the Old High German “wollen”, meaning “to lack” or “deficient”.
The term is used today to explain a one who is excessively thin and sometimes gives the look of suffering, hunger or fatigue.
