Texas is the most recent travel destination with its own Michelin Guide

Texas is the most recent destination to be featured in a brand new Michelin Guide.

Last week, representatives from Texas Tourism and Michelin jointly shared News concerning the upcoming guidebook, set to be released later this yr. This first guide to the Lone Star State will highlight culinary recommendations for Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio.

Texas cuisine is usually known for Texas-style barbecue, steaks, Gulf Coast seafood, and Tex-Mex, a Texas version of Mexican cuisine, but each city is related to specific culinary contributions.

Houston is understood for its Viet-Cajun cuisine, influenced by the Vietnamese diaspora and blended with French Acadian and Southern cuisine. Austin has received praise for its breakfast tacos and food trucks. Dallas is a go-to place for Frito pie, and Fort Worth offers loads of opportunities to try chicken-fried steak, amongst other dishes.

“Texas cuisine reflects the state’s rich cultural heritage and diverse population,” said Tim Fennell, director of Travel Texas, in an emailed media release. “As a leading agricultural state, Texas offers our local chefs an abundance of native ingredients and a diverse selection of high-quality livestock, while our fisheries offer fresh seafood from the Gulf of Mexico.”

In his statement, Fennell also expressed, “While Texas is proud of its famous Tex-Mex and barbecue cuisine, our culinary industry is a dynamic blend of traditional and contemporary flavors, with chefs across the state pushing boundaries with innovative techniques, creative ingredients and outstanding hospitality.”

Texas is about to be the eleventh.th North American destination listed within the Michelin Guide series. Michelin published its first North American guide to New York in 2005.

Since then, guides have been added for Chicago (2011); Washington, DC (2017); California (San Francisco 2008, nationwide 2019); Miami/Orlando/Tampa, Florida (2022); Toronto (2022); Vancouver (2022); Atlanta (2023); and Mexico (2024).

According to Carly Grieff, Michelin’s external communications manager, the guide’s management sends its inspectors – whose anonymity is preserved – to conduct an evaluation of the destinations in a selected destination.

“The inspection team assesses whether a region’s culinary scene is advanced enough to include restaurants in the Michelin Guide and whether the culinary landscape has potential for growth,” Grieff explained. “If they determine this, the process of introducing the guide to that region begins.”

Grieff added that her team independently decided to focus on Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio. “However, this is just the beginning of our story with Texas, and because the Michelin Guide is a long-term project, we very often see its geographic scope expand over time within a country, region or state.”

The 2024 Texas Restaurant Selection of the Year might be included within the Michelin Guide Hotels selection later this yr, which is able to include unique and exciting accommodations in Texas and around the globe.
