In the U.S. and Canada, nearly 138,000 platform beds are being recalled by major retailers equivalent to Amazon and Walmart because they will collapse, posing a risk of falls and injuries.
Utah-based importer CVB Inc. is recalling Lucid brand platform beds with upholstered square tufted headboards. According to Thursday Notes by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health CanadaThe beds may sag, break or collapse during use.
So far, there have been 245 such incidents within the U.S., leading to 18 related injuries equivalent to bruises and contusions, based on the CPSC. Another 11 reports of “bed failure” have been reported in Canada, with no other injuries.
According to Lucid the recall features a discontinued version of its platform beds, which the corporate says were manufactured between 2019 and 2021.
Although production ceased several years ago, the now-recalled beds were still sold at major retailers through April 2024, the CPSC said. In addition to Amazon, Walmart and Lucid’s website, consumers could have also purchased the beds at Bed Bath & Beyond, eBay, Home Depot, Macy’s, Target.com, Wayfair and other retailers.
About 137,000 of the recalled beds were sold within the U.S. and 890 in Canada, the CPSC said.
The beds — that are made in Malaysia and are available twin, full, queen, king and cal-king sizes — may be identified by a white tag on the back of the headboard that ought to read “Manufactured for: CVB INC, 1525 W 2960 S, LOGAN, UT 84321.”
