I began with MUSIC for obvious reasons. It was… OK. It left exactly 100 words. SHARE reduced that to only three, but it surely still took me two more tries to get to the Wordle: SIREN removed all but one word. SKIER won!
Wordle competition result
Total failure. I get 0 for guessing in 4 and 0 for the draw with the bot. Ugh!
How to play competitive Wordle
If you get a 1, guessing is value 3 points, if you happen to get a 2, guessing is value 2 points, if you happen to get a 3, guessing is value 1 point, if you happen to get a 4, guessing is value 0 points, if you happen to get a 5, guessing is value -1 point, if you happen to get a 6, guessing is value -2 points and missing the Wordle is value -3 points.
If you beat your opponent, you get 1 point. If you draw, you get 0 points. And if you happen to lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add these points together to get your rating. Keep a day by day rating or simply play for a brand new rating day-after-day.
Today’s Wordle etymology
The word “skier” comes from the Scandinavian word “ski”. The term “ski” itself comes from the Old Norse word “skíð”, meaning a split piece of wood or a picket stick. The transition from “skíð” to “ski” reflects the evolution of the word in various Scandinavian languages. The suffix “-er” is a typical way of forming agent nouns in English, denoting a one who performs an motion. Therefore, “skier” means “someone who skis”.
