Looking for suggestions, spangram and answers for Saturday’s Strands? You can find them here:
Time for an additional beach weekend. This puzzle was incredibly easy at first, but I used to be completely confused by the top and took ages to work out the last, very long word. Let’s see the way you do.
How to play Strands
The New York Times’ Strands Puzzle is a play on the classic word search puzzle. It is currently in beta, meaning it can only remain available if enough people play it each day.
There is a brand new game from Strands to play every single day. The game presents you with a 6×8 grid of letters. The goal is to seek out a gaggle of words which have something in common and you’ll get a clue as to what that theme is. When you discover a theme word, it can stay highlighted in blue.
You also need to seek out a special word called a spangram. This tells you what the words have in common. The spangram connects two opposite sides of the board. While the theme words aren’t a correct noun, the spangram could be a proper noun. Once you discover the spangram, it can remain highlighted in yellow.
Each letter is used once in one in every of the themed words and spangrams. You can connect letters vertically, horizontally and diagonally and it is feasible to alter direction in the midst of a word. If you’re playing on a touchscreen, double tap the last letter to submit your guess.
When you discover three valid words of no less than 4 letters that aren’t a part of the subject, the Hint button is unlocked. When clicked, it highlights the letters that make up one in every of the subject words.
But watch out: you will have to be alert. Sometimes you should have to fill in missing words in a phrase. Other days the sport may revolve around synonyms or homophones. The level of difficulty varies from everyday and the puzzle authors will sometimes attempt to surprise you.

- PROTECTION
Wow, eight stations today, that is unusual. I suppose that is because a few of them were only 4 letters, which are often saved for clues and never answers.
I first got LOVE, which was confusing because I believed possibly all things can grow are abstract concepts, like love, but I suppose the concept is that in response to plant mythology, plants need like to grow.
And LOVE takes the shape of all the opposite steps, which were pretty straightforward aside from the ultimate, super-long word PROTECTION, which took me a solid quarter-hour to work out and even online unscramblers didn’t help me with. I suppose that is like what, a greenhouse? I feel like a number of plants don’t need literal protection, but whatever. I hope you enjoyed the puzzle.
