A brand new method to make New Year’s resolutions

I used to do it yearly. Make all these New Year’s resolutions with the goals I wanted to attain.

I began doing it again this yr and at first it felt really good to list them:

But once I checked out the list, I used to be surprised by my response. Instead of being energized, I felt uninspired. Huh? These were things I deeply desired, achievements that will surely nourish my soul. Why wasn’t I excited?

Then a line from “A Course in Miracles” got here to mind: In other words, I’ll never find what I need if I’m continually searching for it “out there” or deciding where to seek out it.

Suddenly I had a flashback. New Year’s Eve 1995. At the highest of my list: Finishing my first book. Not because I enjoyed writing. But as a broadcast writer, I’d finally feel necessary. Two years later, nevertheless, I walked past a bookstore, saw my book within the window, and waited to feel necessary. Instead, I felt nothing!

Looking back on this memory, I now realize that what I really need just isn’t a tangible goal. This is how I need to feel once I achieve it.

So this yr I created a brand latest list: To benefit from the satisfaction and joy that writing brings me. Enjoying the pleasure of working with my team to create something latest. To spend more time within the love of my family. And to feel connected to my soul, to be physically healthy and to experience longer periods of inner peace.

Reading these now makes me feel energized and excited for any unexpected events or unimagined possibilities that the universe may bring.

What should you did the identical? Rewrite your resolutions and list the sentiments you desire to experience without insisting that you already know how you can find them. Share your thoughts within the comments below.
