Air Miles expands its offering with opportunities to gather and redeem

As you could recall, BMO Financial Group bought Air Miles in March 2023 after this system’s owner, Loyalty Ventures Inc., filed for bankruptcy. At the time, BMO said the acquisition was “an opportunity created in Canada to breathe new life into one of Canada’s largest loyalty programs.”

For Air Miles collectors, that day has come. Let’s have a look at how this system has modified.

What’s recent at Air Miles?

In addition to emphasizing moments (collect them, win them, achieve them faster), the brand new Air Miles brand platform reflects several program enhancements introduced since April:

Further earning opportunities

There are two ways for collectors to gather more miles:

  • Airmiles receiptslaunching in 2023, gives members miles for purchasing certain products and scanning receipts with the Air Miles app inside 14 days. Air Miles Receipts initially included grocery stores. It recently expanded to incorporate liquor stores, and more categories shall be added in September.
  • Card-based offers Give collectors bonus miles at partner retailers. To access offers, link a Canadian-issued Mastercard to your Air Miles account. (BMO Air Miles Mastercards are mechanically linked.) Two recent examples: 250 bonus miles for $500 spent at LG Electronics and 125 bonus miles for $300 spent at Porter Airlines.

Other redemption options

Collectors can redeem Air Miles for eVouchers at several well-known retailers, including Amazon, Sporting Life, TJX brands (Winners, HomeSense, Marshalls) and more. Redeeming 95 Cash Miles will earn you a $10 value (the identical as before the relaunch).

Petrol discounts at Shell

If you might have a credit or debit card linked to BMO Air Miles, you may save $0.07 per litre on Shell V-Power Premium fuel and $0.02 per litre on other Shell fuels – a pleasant extra considering the high prices of gasoline.

Other bank card advantages

BMO Air Miles credit cardholders can now earn double miles on purchases at wholesale clubs and liquor retailers in Canada, at the identical increased mileage rate as at eligible grocery stores.

Conversion between Cash Miles and Dream Miles

Air Miles requires cardholders to separate their award miles into two categories: Cash Miles (redeemable for retailer e-coupons and in-store discounts) and Dream Miles (redeemable for merchandise and travel awards). The ratio is as much as you, but until now it wasn’t possible to convert the miles into the others. Onyx and Gold collectors (the highest two of the three Air Miles tiers) now have more flexibility: Onyx collectors can transfer unlimited miles, and Gold collectors can transfer as much as 1,000 miles per yr. (Sorry, Blue collectors, no transfers for you.)
