Nerio Alessandri, founder and CEO of Technogym, likes to let his products speak for themselves. The fitness company Alessandri founded remains to be headquartered in Cesena, Emilia-Romagna in northern Italy, where he was born and founded the corporate. His strong Italian accent in English is a stark contrast to the elegant, world-renowned designs his products are famous for.
Technogym supplies all of the athletes’ training centers in Paris, he told me, and that is by far one of the best product placement and feedback mechanism he could imagine. He’s completely happy to simply accept the undeniable fact that such a presence costs Technogym – which has sales of around $1 billion – hundreds of thousands of dollars in marketing fees.

The passionate, well-connected Italian shows more of his face on this exclusive interview with Assets. WhatsApp, he told us, is certainly one of his favorite productivity tools. His children and their friends are on the 60-year-old’s personal board. It allows the person who founded Technogym in his parents’ garage in 1982 to get “feedback from the younger generations.”

Down to business
Assets: What is crucial project you’re working on along with your company?
The Olympic Games in Paris. Technogym has been chosen because the official supplier of the Olympic and Paralympic Games for sports training for the ninth time. In Paris, Technogym has equipped 29 training centers for the 15,000 Olympic and Paralympic athletes with probably the most progressive equipment and digital technologies.

Which long-term trend for society and the economy as an entire makes you most optimistic?
Health and longevity are currently amongst crucial consumer trends.

If you were an economic policymaker, what can be your top priority?
When it involves health, we want to maneuver from today’s approach, which is principally based on cure, to at least one based on prevention. There is loads of scientific evidence that shows that physical exertion is an actual cure for a lot of metabolic and cardiovascular diseases.
Be productive
When do you rise up and what a part of your morning routine prepares you for the day?
I rise up around 6:30 a.m. I all the time exercise, have breakfast after which start my workday.
What time do you’re employed until? Do you continue to send emails at night and/or on weekends?
I normally work within the office until 7pm… but I’m lucky enough to work in a really exciting industry, so my work often mixes with my personal life in exciting ways. For example, at once I’m in Paris to look at the Olympics… which is loads of fun, but in addition offers the chance to make business contacts within the sports industry.

What apps or methods do you employ to be more productive?
Nothing really special, technologies and organizational tools have gotten increasingly more commonplace. I imagine that creativity is the primary technology today that could make a difference. Personally, I take advantage of WhatsApp quite a bit. The group chats are extremely useful for quickly updating and sharing information with the several teams in the several projects.

Who is in your “personal board”?
My children Erica and Edoardo and their friends. For me it is prime to have the views and feedback of the younger generations so as to have the option to work on a long-term plan.

If you might ask your idol one query, who would it not be and what would you ask?
Very difficult query. I do not have an actual idol, but I like listening and asking inquiries to everyone… from top CEOs or political leaders to on a regular basis people. I imagine that the flexibility to ask the appropriate questions and be humble enough to listen is one of the best approach to learn and improve.

As a consumer, what’s your favorite company and why?
Apple for its combination of fantastic design, products, content and community. When it involves fitness and sport, at Technogym we have now created a singular ecosystem to attach individuals with their personal training experience: within the gym, at home, in hotels, at work, on the doctor’s office and outdoors.
