“It saves money,” she said. “And basically, money stays in your pocket when you think about not having to spend that money yourself.”
People often forget what’s included of their package or don’t check for changes to group plans, Marques said.
Take advantage of your organization’s discounts and advantages
Jillian Climie, a compensation expert and co-founder of Vancouver-based consulting firm The Thoughtful Co., says employees should take the time to research and browse up on what perks and advantages the corporate offers before seeing a human resources representative.
“They’re not the most exciting reads, but they’re very valuable – if you do the groundwork yourself,” Climie said. Especially when employees are promoted, it is vital to learn in regards to the advantages recent employees receive, reminiscent of financial support for skilled development and training grants.
Fitness allowances reminiscent of gym memberships or reimbursement for home exercise equipment reminiscent of yoga mats and even treadmills could possibly be included in the advantages. Other little-used unofficial perks could include ergonomic facilities at home, monthly phone bills, paid parking and travel expenses, Climie said.
Marques said that even essentially the most common advantages, reminiscent of vacation and medical health insurance, are usually not getting used sufficiently. Workers are usually not aware “that they can actually get considerable added value from their jobs.”
She said people often don’t take full advantage of their paid vacation because they cannot afford to travel. “You can still get your full pay if you just stay home, relax and take a break,” she said.
