There are experts and there are outliers.
Experts dedicate years to learning an industry or a skill. They follow the processes and procedures given to them by previous experts. This becomes their industry accepted and well-trodden path. They know what they know. They know what works and what doesn’t.
However, outliers almost all the time start out as non-experts. They do not know what they do not know. You are usually not certain by accepted theories, processes or dogmas that experts accept as fact. As a result, they pursue paths that experts would never pursue – paths that the experts thought were dead ends. This results in outliers wandering off and taking contrary paths. And in mountaineering, outliers are those that find solutions to problems that experts can never find, because experts rarely digress or take contrary paths.
For this reason, almost every revolutionary discovery is made by an outlier.
After my radio interview with Dave Ramsey, CNN wrote an ideal article about my research. Many “study experts,” “experts,” who had never seen my research or discussed it with me, chimed in. Almost every “expert” ridiculed my study because I used to be a tutorial outlier who dared to conduct a study. Since then, my study data has been validated by various third parties including Wealth X and Chris Hogan.
But I learned that I wasn’t alone. There were many outliers who were also ridiculed by the “experts”.
- Leonardo da Vinci was an outlier – he was a painter and sculptor who made many discoveries: arteriosclerosis, that the center had 4 chambers (not two because the experts believed), that blood swirls in a vortex at the bottom of the aorta, forcing the aortic valve to shut. None of his discoveries were confirmed until 1968, some 450 years after da Vinci’s death.
- Benjamin Franklin was on Outlier – He was a printer and politician who discovered that lightning and electricity were one and the identical.
- Charles Darwin was an outlier – a theologian who defied the experts and the church by postulating the idea of evolution.
- Nicola Tesla was an outlier – Tesla discovered that electricity was ubiquitous – it was throughout us and he built a big electricity receiver/transmitter in Colorado that allowed him to distribute electricity wirelessly. He called this free energy. When JP Morgan came upon about this, it stopped all financing of Tesla because much of Morgan’s wealth was tied to petroleum products. While Tesla’s free energy device design was suppressed by the US government, six of his free energy devices are still in operation in a small town in Switzerland, manufactured by a mechanical engineer who followed Tesla’s design.
- Thomas Edison was an outlier – he was the primary to manage the flow and distribution of electricity, something the experts couldn’t do.
- Einstein was an outlier – he discovered his theory of relativity while daydreaming on a train while commuting to his job as a patent officer.
- Henry Ford was an outlier – He was an up-and-coming automobile manufacturer who got here up with the concept for an assembly line after visiting a Chicago slaughterhouse and eternally modified the best way cars were made.
- Richard Branson was an outlier – Branson entered the music industry and altered the best way the industry sold records and discovered recent talent.
- Steve Jobs was an outlier – he and Steve Wozniak were the primary to make use of icons and a monitor in the primary personal computers they built.
- Elon Musk is an outlier – He had no knowledge or expertise when he decided to develop into a rocket manufacturer. The experts laughed at Musk’s idea of a “reusable rocket.”
Not everyone may be an outlier. Outliers need to have very thick skin to endure the slings and arrows of the “experts” until they prove the “experts” fallacious and find yourself changing the world in the method.
