A hotel steeped in history
People could have known the hotel from its previous lives before its transformation.
The hotel was called the Great Northern Hotel before it was purchased by Jack Parker Corp, a subsidiary of Air France, in 1981 and renamed Hotel Parker Meridien New York.
The hotel was sold again in 2018 and renamed the Parker New York Hotel. After a closure in the course of the pandemic and a serious renovation, Thompson Central Park New York reopened under the Hyatt umbrella in 2021.

The stories above
The Upper Stories, a luxury “hotel within a hotel” concept launched in 2022, is an exclusive enclave on the hotel’s upper floors, 26 to 33.
These properties offer a personal check-in experience, access to an assigned concierge and exclusive in-room perks including Dyson Supersonic hairdryers, Nespresso Vertuo coffee machines and Victrola Bluetooth radio.
On the third floor, the inviting Upper Stories Lounge (the primary lounge from the Thompson Hotels lifestyle brand) offers a “third place” with comfortable seating for relaxing and meeting other travelers.
Here guests can enjoy a fast breakfast buffet or light snacks and drinks throughout the day. (Specialty coffees, teas, and soft drinks are complimentary; alcoholic beverages can be found at an extra cost.) In addition to 2 widescreen televisions, the lounge incorporates a Victrola Listening Lounge with a set of vinyl records.
In addition to the cloud-like beds with Frette linens, one other fascinating feature of the Upper Stories guestrooms is the breathtaking park views. Located just two blocks south of Central Park, many rooms showcase the ever-changing fantastic thing about the treetops.
Places to eat
If you might be hungry you haven’t got to go away the hotel. In addition to in-room dining, the Thompson Hotel Central Park offers three attractive on-site dining options.
Parker’s, the hotel’s lobby lounge and skylight restaurant, features 36-foot ceilings covered in greenery. The artwork on the partitions celebrates jazz through photography. The all-day menu at Parker’s features appetizers, shareable dishes, New York-inspired entrees and the choice of a three-course prix fixe lunch and dinner. On Thursday evenings, guests can enjoy craft cocktails with live music.
Behind a red velvet curtain within the lobby is the legendary Burger Joint, an off-the-cuff restaurant that opened in Parker Meridian in 2002. The menu includes juicy hamburgers, cheeseburgers, plant-based burgers, chicken and cheese sandwiches and more.
Finally, if you must sample authentic New York ethnic cuisine, Indian Accent offers a contemporary tackle traditional Indian dishes and features an intensive wine list.
