Tesla removes Elon Musk’s “secret master plan” from website

In 2006, when Tesla was still a young electric vehicle company, CEO Elon Musk wrote a Secret master plan which outlined Tesla’s environmental doctrine and EV production goals and published in a blog post. However, the document and blog posts published before 2019 have now been disappeared from the corporate’s website.

First April 2024Tesla called the plan Musk’s own creation and a fundamental cornerstone of its mission. “Tesla’s entire corporate strategy is Musk’s brainchild – he designed both the ‘Master Plan’ and the ‘Master Plan, Part 2,'” the corporate told investors.

Tesla’s secret master plan outlined the steps to supply reasonably priced, consumer-friendly electric vehicles and reflected a philosophy of leveraging the use of unpolluted energy to offset the auto industry’s use of fossil fuels because it moves toward a more sustainable future. Musk argued that Tesla could make electric vehicles more cost-effective through the success of its Tesla Roadster, a “high-end, battery-powered sports car.”

“The overarching purpose of Tesla Motors (and the reason I fund the company) is to accelerate the transition from an economy based on mining and burning hydrocarbons to one powered by solar power. I believe this is the primary, but not the only, sustainable solution,” Musk said within the document.

Musk wrote the “Master Plan, Part 2” in 2016 after Tesla successfully launched its Roadster and Model S and went public in 2010. This document, in keeping with the 2024 Power of attorneyoutlined projections for mass production of Tesla’s Model 3. The document is not any longer available on Tesla’s website and the unique link leads back to the corporate’s major blog page. Tesla published a third master plan in April 2023, which may still be found on the corporate’s website. The document outlines the corporate’s sustainability goals and the materials needed to fabricate Tesla’s fleet of cars.

Why now?

Musk’s first two master plans weren’t the one notable texts faraway from Tesla’s website. Automotive news portal Autoevolution reported last week that Tesla had deleted older blog posts, including one from 2016 titled “All Tesla cars now in production have fully autonomous driving hardware.” The post touted the fully autonomous driving (FSD) ability to navigate “busy highways” and find optimal driving routes. However, Tesla warned that the cars’ FSD features wouldn’t work until regulatory approval and “extensive software validation.”

Not only have these features not yet been implemented, Tesla can also be facing a Class motion lawsuit It claims the corporate and Musk misled Tesla owners in regards to the self-driving and Autopilot features. The lawsuit alleges Tesla told customers that their cars would soon have autonomous driving features and falsely advertised the cars’ self-driving capabilities to trick customers into paying more for the vehicles. Tesla must also face a claim from the California Department of Motor Vehicles, which claims the EV company has overstated these same features.

The disappearance of cornerstone documents in Tesla’s founding philosophy also coincides with Musk’s recent softening of his climate positions and his support of Donald Trump’s candidacy for re-election as president. Trump has previously insulted Electric vehicles that will “kill” the auto industry. This month pledged abolish tax breaks for electric vehicles and scrap President Joe Biden’s sustainability initiatives.

Yet despite Trump’s hostility to electric cars, Musk has pledged his effusive support for the previous president, including supporting Trump after the July 13 assassination attempt and expressing interest in taking a Cabinet role in Trump’s administration if he’s re-elected. Musk denied reports that he plans to donate $45 million a month to Trump’s political motion committee.

But as Musk courts his latest potential political ally, his views on the fossil fuel industry are increasingly moving closer to those of Trump. two-hour conversation with Trump In the video streamed on X on August 13, Musk defended the gas and oil industries, saying the economy is dependent upon these types of energy.

“My views on climate change and oil and gas … are pretty moderate,” Musk said. “I don’t think we should demonize the oil and gas industry and the people who have worked very hard in those industries to provide the energy necessary to support the economy.”

The archive of press releases and SEC filings on the Tesla site goes back to 2008 and 2010 respectively.
