Carlo and Michela Babini, along with Claudio Meli, recently gave several insights into THE PLACE.
1) Describe the history of THE PLACE Firenze.
THE PLACE Firenze was formerly called JK Place Firenze and was acquired right in the beginning of its existence, just a couple of months after it opened, and has been under our management since day one, with Claudio Meli. At that point it was decided to maintain the previous name of the property as there was no other hotel under the identical brand. In 2019 we decided to rebrand and renovate. The Hospitality Experience is the brand new brand group we launched in 2022 to strengthen our collection and prepare to construct our future. Our collection began in 1938 on the Londra Palace Venezia and expanded in Florence in 2003 and Perugia in 2009. – Carlo Babini, CEO of The Hospitality Experience (Owner)
The actual location of THE PLACE Firenze, in Piazza Santa Maria Novella, is where Florence used to have its city partitions. This happened within the Middle Ages when there was a gorgeous vineyard within the church of Santa Maria Novella, which has now been replaced by a rose garden right in front of the property. When the team opened the hotel constructing, they found condominiums on the bottom floor, which have now been converted into the hotel’s magnificent Glass Yard, which was a incredible flower shop within the ’60s. What adds to the casualness and romance is the indisputable fact that the shop was run by our actual florist’s father. — Claudio Meli, General Manager of THE PLACE Firenze
2) How does the renovation capture the local Florentine community?
THE PLACE is stuffed with Florentine craftsmanship from our artisan partners at The Place Of Wonders Foundation who’ve created amazing bespoke pieces for us. Guests can discover pieces across the hotel like on a treasure hunt – of their rooms, within the restaurant and in all of our cozy living rooms. The feeling for place is a pillar for us at THE PLACE, here you possibly can really feel Florence in each detail. —Claudio Meli
3) What is the mission of The Place of Wonders?
Place Of Wonders’ mission is to advertise and promote the human heritage of Italian craftsmanship. The effect is twofold. On the one hand, the Foundation invests in the subsequent generation by funding scholarships at schools and training institutes for emerging young talents to change into the subsequent generation of artisans, while at the identical time enhancing the guest experience through interactive and academic visits to this exclusive group of artisans and fostering an appreciation for the artistic and craft wonders that enrich our cities through the invaluable contributions of General Manager Claudio Meli. This initiative promotes the concept of conscious travel and connects guests with the cultural heritage that makes each place unique. – Michela Babini, Director of The Place of Wonders Foundation
