The Titanic II is scheduled to set sail in 2027

Australian billionaire Clive Palmer has been considering the thought of constructing the Titanic II, a full replica of the doomed luxury liner that sank on its maiden voyage in 1912, for years. He has now set a date for his successor’s first trip.

“We are thrilled to announce that after unforeseen global delays, we have once again worked with partners to bring the dream of Titanic II to life. “Let the journey begin,” Palmer said in an announcement. The ship is scheduled to set sail in June 2027, but tickets are usually not yet available.

First, Blue Star Line, of which Palmer is CEO, must construct the Titanic II.

It’s something the mining billionaire and politician has been hoping for for greater than a decade. He first announced his plans in 2012. Nothing happened. In 2017, he made one other announcement, but blamed the pandemic for scuttling those plans. Now, he says, construction will begin next 12 months – and Blue Star is asking developers for suggestions and construction plans.

Of course there will likely be some differences from the unique. Palmer has said he wants state-of-the-art navigation equipment (to raised avoid those icebergs) and plenty of more lifeboats than the Titanic featured in James Cameron’s film.

Otherwise, nevertheless, the plan is to make it as detailed as possible, with large staircases, 835 cabins on nine decks and first, second and third or intermediate class cabins. Passengers who select the budget option will likely be served stew and porridge at communal tables like the unique passengers (although they also can go for other meals).

Palmer even says there will likely be delousing for third class passengers, weather permitting, identical to in the unique.

According to Blue Star Line, the ship will begin its journey in Southampton, England website. From there it goes to Cherbourg in France before continuing to New York.

Palmer, who jokes that his wife tried to dissuade him from recreating the Titanic, says he’s self-financing the project and has already committed “a few hundred million dollars” to the replica, adding: “And definitely is much more available.”

“One of the problems we had with the Titanic was that you had to make it safe.” he said Rolling Stone. “You’ll remember in the movie the guy in the crow’s nest said “Iceberg!” This was because you could not see over the bow from the bridge. We cannot do this today. So we needed to put a very recent deck on the Titanic. And it has lots of the fashionable amenities you’ll want. We be certain that there may be a small plaque in each room that tells you the story of the one who occupied your cabin. Did they survive, did they triumph? Everyone will get a dressing up in order that they can come to dinner and it would be an actual experience for them.”

By financing the development of the Titanic II, Palmer also can put his own stamp on the cruise line. He says passengers won’t be required to be vaccinated against COVID and the ship, he says, will reflect traditional relatively than “woke” values.

“Titanic II is something that can create peace,” he said within the press release. “It can be a ship of peace between all countries in the world. Millions have dreamed of sailing on her, seeing her in port and experiencing her unique majesty. Titanic II will be the ship on which these dreams come true.”
