Three groundbreaking rocket launches you need to see

Did you see SpaceX’s Starship launch earlier this month? If that whetted your appetite for more cutting-edge rocket launches, you are in luck, because three more groundbreaking launches are set to happen this summer.

Expect a rare use of SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket, the debut launch of a brand new employee rocket, and an try and send astronauts farther into space than ever since NASA’s Apollo missions within the early Nineteen Seventies.

Here you will see that all the things you might want to know – and dates to your calendar.

Only SpaceX’s tenth Falcon Heavy rocket will launch today from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, carrying NASA/NOAA’s GOES-U weather satellite into orbit. GOES-U is exclusive in that it encompasses a coronagraph that maps the sun’s mysterious, hotter outer atmosphere and helps solar physicists more accurately predict space weather.

Falcon Heavy is a partially reusable heavy-lift launch vehicle. The highlight shall be the tandem landing of its two boosters on two adjoining launch pads.

NASA and SpaceX are aiming for a two-hour launch window starting at 5:16 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, June 25, but keep the SpaceX feed on X for exact time information.

Tuesday, July 9: A robust latest rocket takes to the skies for the primary time

Mission: Europe’s latest work rocket completes its maiden launch.

The European Space Agency has confirmed the primary launch of Ariane 6 from the European spaceport in French Guiana.

Europe’s latest heavy-lift launch vehicle replaces the Ariane 5 and encompasses a reignitable upper stage that enables it to launch multiple missions into different orbits in a single flight.

Friday, July 12: “Polaris Dawn” reaches 1,400 kilometers above the Earth

Mission: A SpaceX Falcon 9 will launch a industrial crew of 4 private astronauts into space in a Dragon capsule.

Where to see: SpaceX’s website or Youtube channel.

The Polaris program is a collaboration with SpaceX that can launch up to a few manned space missions to display latest technologies. It is led by Jared Isaacman, founding father of Shift4 Payments, who flew into space in September 2021 as commander of the SpaceX Inspiration4 mission.

This first mission, Polaris Dawn, will see the Dragon spacecraft carrying 4 astronauts (Isaacman, Scott Poteet, Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon) fly 870 miles above the Earth – the best altitude because the Apollo missions to the Moon.
