What goes on behind the hedges of personal homes within the Hamptons each summer could also be a mystery, but we now have some data that offers us a glimpse into what goes on behind closed doors.
DoorDash has released the most-ordered items and trendiest purchases within the Hamptons this summer, and while some deliveries are predictable, the choice is intriguing. And indicative of the leisure class Really I would like to avoid traffic on the Montauk Highway.
“It’s probably not surprising that we saw an increase in DoorDash orders of rosé wine from Hampton vacationers this summer,” says Alanna Shipley, Consumer Insights Expert at DoorDash. “What was interesting, however, was that we saw an increase in laptop accessories like wireless mice and keyboards, which leads us to believe that Hampton visitors are taking advantage of flexible work schedules and having a ‘quiet vacation’ thanks to the convenience of DoorDash delivery. By offering everything you need for work and partying for delivery, DoorDash is helping consumers get the most out of their summer workouts.”
The (hopefully) “work hard, relax hard” mentality was clearly evident in the info. This summer, DoorDash saw a big increase in orders for delivery of computer accessories, including wireless mice and keyboards (because of Staples delivery). Is this a quiet vacation? Or poor planning? Beauty basics like eyeliner, concealer, eyebrow gel, and self-tanning products also saw increased deliveries on each weekdays and weekends. Online shoppers who don’t need to drive into town to take care of returns can even order pickup of prepaid packages through DoorDash.
Wild partying has also been a theme thus far. DoorDash has seen a 290% increase in alcohol purchases across beer, soda, wine, and more. Within that increase, there was a 340% increase in spirits orders, with vodka and tequila being the preferred. Wine orders have seen a 260% increase. Unsurprisingly, rosé is the highest seller, followed by orders for Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Since there aren’t any major chains within the Hamptons, fast food shouldn’t be very talked-about, but that does not stop summer guests from craving light snacks within the evenings. In June and July, DoorDash within the Hamptons saw a 118% increase in orders between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m. The hottest items to order after dinner are fries, nuggets and chicken sandwiches. Open until midnight, expressway is the most recent option within the East for essentials, be it alcohol, ice cream or chips.
And after all, New Yorkers will likely be New Yorkers. DoorDash data shows that whilst New Yorkers head east, New York’s beloved breakfast staple, bacon, egg and cheese, stays the highest selection. The classic BEC was probably the most ordered breakfast item within the Hampton this summer, followed by hash browns and a bagel with cream cheese. And while East Hampton’s Brekkie Bagels is on DoorDash, famed local bagel empire The Original Goldberg’s Famous Bagels is all in regards to the old-fashioned situation: walk in and wait in line.
