The White Stripes sued former President Donald Trump on Monday for allegedly using their hit song “Seven Nation Army” without permission in a video posted on social media.
The band accused Trump and his presidential campaign team of copyright infringement for taking part in the song’s iconic opening riff over a video showing Trump boarding a plane to his campaign appearances in Michigan and Wisconsin last month.
The Trump team didn’t immediately reply to an emailed request for comment.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Manhattan, says the band also challenged Trump’s use of the song because members Jack White and Meg White “vehemently oppose the policies and actions pursued by Defendant Trump during his presidency and proposed for his sought second term.”
Several outstanding musicians had previously criticized Trump for using their songs at rallies. Last week, a federal judge in Atlanta ruled that Trump and his campaign must stop using the song “Hold On, I’m Coming” after the estate of Isaac Hayes Jr. filed a lawsuit.
